The news networks are already declaring Martin O'Malley winner for Governor of Maryland and Ben Cardin winner for Senator. However, the difference in votes is only about 7,000 votes between O'Malley and Bob Ehrlich. The gap between Cardin and Michael Steele is about 60,000 votes. The problem is that only 67% of the voting districts have reported in. That's voting districts counting votes from people who voted today. There were also about 200,000 absentee ballots, which was a record for Maryland. They won't even begin to count the absentee ballots until Thursday, by law. So, declaring winners now is pointless and possibly wrong when you only have a 1% difference in the number of votes for Governor and a 4% difference in the number of votes for Senator, with much more tallying still to go.
